The chance to photograph the wedding of good friends is always fun, but to have an incredibly gorgeous venue on top of that is a photographers dream! Although it was another blustery day at their parent's remodeled school house, Jeni and Drew had a gorgeous July 3rd wedding. Jeni may have been running a little late, but I am sure Drew would agree she was well worth the wait. With all the wedding photographers in the market today, couples are often confused as to what they should look for in a photographer and photography coverage. Here are some things to take into consideration...

- Personality – your photographer will be with you the majority of your day, so make sure you are comfortable with them!

- Do you love their work? Can you “see” yourself in their photos? Make sure you view a full wedding from start to finish, not just a sample of their “greatest hits”. Anybody can take a great shot on occasion but only a professional will be able to provide consistent quality.

- What is the photographer’s background? Have they recently picked up a camera during these tough economic times or do they have the education, knowledge and experience with handling weddings? Are they insured and do they carry backup equipment?

- What are you getting with your package? Does the photographer leave you with only digital files or are you receiving a complete package with touched-up prints and a customized album?

It's hard to believe that Mike and Stephanie have already been married for four months! Mike and Steph had a gorgeous ceremony at a private residence. It was a super chilly day so poor Steph was covered with goosebumps during pictures, but luckily, a little champagne and kisses from her new hubby had her warmed up in no time! They had a great time dancing the night away at Stadium View.

Free Newborn Portraits!

First Comes Love, Then Comes Marriage, Then Comes...
Well you get the idea! It seems everywhere we look we are running into past brides that are expecting their first (or second!) little one and we couldn't be happier! We have decided to offer a free newborn session to all of our former wedding clients. Portrait session must take place before baby turns six weeks. For all our brides we have missed out on this deal, we will offer a one time free children's portrait session if booked by January 31st, 2010. Sessions will include online proofing, ordering and sharing along with a complimentary 8x10 of your choice.

Here are some helpful hints for newborn sessions:

- Most parents opt for the au'natural bare bottom look, however, if you prefer your little one to be covered up, choose simple clothing. Avoid characters on clothing.

- Crank up the heat! For sessions in our home office, we will generally turn up our heat or have a space heater running to keep our newborns comfy when the clothes come off... a warm baby is a happy one! If you schedule a session in your home, please do the same!

- Feed your child before arriving for your session. A full belly makes a more content little one. However, you can certainly take a feeding break at any time.

- Mom and Dad - wear long sleeve solid black or white shirts. We will often use the parents as a "backdrop" to hold the little ones.

- Book your newborn session early... we prefer to do newborn sessions as young as possible. The smaller the baby the easier they are to pose - they still have that snuggly curl in a ball and look cute thing going on! Also, the older the baby gets, the more likely it will develop baby acne and cradle cap.

- Bring props! Do you have an adorable newborn hat or a baby blanket that grandma knitted? Bring these items along to personalize your session.

- Finally, keep an open mind! We often photograph newborns sleeping as this is when they look the sweetest and are the most comfy. If you are hoping for a bright eyed photo of your child in the first weeks, you may be disappointed (often they will appear cross-eyed when we can catch their eyes!)

Their wedding was held at a friends home on a beautiful, although chilly, fall day. Steph looked beautiful, and Mike spent the day beaming at her! We wish them both a beautiful and long marriage.
